Aspley State School Parents & Citizens Association
Be Informed! Be Involved!
 
The Aspley State School Parents and Citizens Association (“The P&C”) is a vital part of life at our school. Throughout the year, volunteers organise events that support our community to be a welcoming and inclusive environment for all our families and staff. 
 
The P&C manages the business operations of the Tuckshop and Uniform Shop and is also vital in raising funds to support our school; the P&C have, in the past, provided a significant annual contribution to the school (over $250 000 during 2014-2017). These additional funds allow our school to provide extra resources for learning and play, including upgrading the grounds and buildings, funding air-conditioned classrooms, and updating IT resources.  This all supports our children and teachers to work and play comfortably throughout the year.  No one can do everything, but everyone can do something – Together Everyone Achieves More.
 
 
COMMUNICATIONS
The P&C work hard to ensure that families are informed and involved about events happening around the school.  We utilize online sign-up platforms and electronic surveys to gather your feedback.  The school newsletter and school website are the most two important sources of information.  P&C News, in the school newsletter, provides an update of current and future P&C events; while the website has all the notes and flyers.  The QSchools App is a great way to have all the notes available at your fingertips.
 
We also encourage you to like and follow our Facebook page(@AspleySSPandC).  The Facebook page is utilized to assist with getting our messages out to the community quickly.  Connect with us at:  https://www.facebook.com/AspleySSPandC/.
 
A vision of the P&C is to reduce its contribution to paper wastage by aiming for no notes home in bags by 2020. It is a bold vision but, with the support of the community in pro-actively checking the school website and reading the school newsletter, we believe it can be achieved. Should families NEED a hard copy of a note or newsletter, these are available at the school office.
 
 
MEETING DATES
The P&C conducts 2 general meetings per term. These currently occur on a Tuesday, usually in Week 3 and Week 7 of each term, 7:00pm in the Administration Block (Library).  Important issues are put forward and this is an opportunity to be informed and be involved in the decision making. Your attendance is always welcome and you do not have to be a member to attend; however only members are eligible to vote in decisions, so why not make your vote count?

Term 1:  February 6 (week 3) and AGM on 27 February (week 6)
Term 2: May 1st (week 3) and May 29th (week 7)
Term 3: July 31st (week 3) and August 28th (week 7)
Term 4: October 23rd (week 3) and November 20th (week 7)
 
Annual General Meeting 2019: 19th February 2019 (Week 4)
 
 
P&C EXECUTIVE
The P&C Executive is elected annually at the Annual General Meeting held typically in February.  The P&C Executive are volunteer positions made up of a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.  Executive nominations can be made by completing the Executive nomination form and dropping it into the office. The Aspley State School P&C adheres to P&C’s QLD guidelines, state government legislations, and follows a Model Constitution (see here – link to current constitution).
 
Executive members may be contacted via email pandc@aspleyss.eq.edu.au, through the school or by attending a P&C meeting.  All parents and interested members of the community are welcome to attend these meetings.

SUB-COMMITTEES AND ONGOING SERVICES
The P&C sub-committees have been established to streamline the operations of the Aspley State School P&C.  Each sub-committee has an elected chairperson who reports directly to the P&C Executive on a regular basis.  Below is a list of the endorsed sub committees with a brief description of their role within the P&C.
 
Aspley Community Spirit (Aspley Spirit, Events and Fundraising, incorporating Aspley Music)
This sub-committee is responsible for communications, social and fundraising events, and community liaison.  Aspley Music is a group of parents who work specifically in helping the school with the two Music Nights held each year, highlighting the musical talents of our Aspley school students.  If you have an idea, please feel free to email AspleyEvents@gmail.com.
 
Aspley Swim Club
The Aspley Swim Club sub-committee supports the running of Friday night swim club events, friendly events with neighbouring schools, and Club Championships.  All members of our community are welcome to participate at Aspley Swim Club, not just Aspley State School students. The outside school hours management of the pool has been tendered to Swim Solutions. Further information about Swim Solutions can be obtained from www.swimsolutions.com.au  
 
Building and Maintenance
This committee is responsible for organising working bees, liaising with the P&C and our Principal, and providing parent assistance for minor works around the school. With 700+ students we would love to see more parents volunteer their gardening, handy skills, painting and helping our school to look sharp always.
 
Uniform Shop and Tuckshop
Aspley State School P&C manages the business operations of our Aspley Uniform Shop and Tuckshop, as a service to our school community.  Volunteers are vital to ensure the smooth running of these operations.  To offer your support, we welcome you to speak with our Tuckshop and Uniform shop convenors at any time.
