Keeping Cool This Summer

13/02/2017

With our summer reaching temperatures of above 35 degrees we need to take proper precautions to ensure that we all stay safe and cool. Our Aspley State School Students have shown some great responsibility whilst outdoors. They play in shaded areas, keeping well hydrated and ensure that they have the correct uniform wearing a broad brim hat. We as a school are proud to say that all of our students keep cool while they are being educated in their air-conditioned classrooms, and we would like to thank the P&C for all their hard work and effort raising funds for the air-conditioning ensuring that our children remain comfortable during this sticky summer heat.

Here are some tips to stay cool during this potentially severe heatwave:

  • Drink plenty of water – even if you do not feel thirsty. Judge fluid intake adequacy by how often you go to the toilet – it should be many times a day!
  • Spend as much time as possible in air-conditioned or cool environments.
  • Keep cool by using wet towels, taking cool showers or going for a swim
  • Stay out of the sun during the hottest parts of the day.
  • If you have to go outside, stay in the shade and take water with you.
  • Wear a hat, light, loose-fitting clothing, sunscreen and sunglasses – slip, slop, slap wrap.
